On June 6, 2019, the European Food Safety Authority published its “Guidance on the use of the Threshold of Toxicological Concern approach in food safety assessment.” In the document, EFSA’s “Scientific Committee confirms that the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) is a pragmatic screening and prioritization tool for use in food safety assessment” and “provides clear step-by-step instructions for use of the TTC approach.”

The guidance was finalized following a public consultation held at the end of 2018 (FPF reported). A technical document summarizing the “outcome of the public consultation” was also published on June 6, 2019.
