On July 16, 2013 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a new video in its public outreach series on Risk Assessment. In the 4 minute video clip “What do we mean by food contact materials?”, EFSA scientist Eric Barthelemy explains what falls under the term of food contact materials and what type of materials are commonly in contact with foodstuffs. He also shows what migration means and what main factors determine chemical migration into food. Risk of exposure to food contact material chemicals and regulatory safety assessment is also explained.
