On May 18, 2017 the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF Panel) published the latest update of the meeting minutes of its Working Group on Food Contact Materials (WG-FCM). The 22nd meeting of the WG-FCM was held on April 28, 2017 by phone conference. The 23rd meeting of the WG-FCM was also held by phone conference on May 8, 2017 and involved the WG’s subgroup on uncertainty guidance.

During the meeting on April 28, the WG-FCM discussed the draft opinion on the substance phosphorous acid, triphenyl ester, polymer with alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxypoly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)], C10- 16 alkyl esters (Doverphos LGP-11, CAS 1227937-46-3) for use in the manufacture of FCMs. The WG noted that it requires additional information to complete the risk assessment. The scientific evaluation of the substance is suspended until the requested information is submitted by the applicant.

On May 8 the WG’s subgroup on uncertainty guidance discussed pending issues regarding the implementation of EFSA’s draft uncertainty guidance into the FCM case study that had been selected for the trial phase. The subgroup noted that they agreed on revisions of the wording “to make the exercise more transparent.” No further detailed information was provided in the meeting minutes.

The next meeting of the WG-FCM was scheduled to take place on May 16-18, 2017.
