On September 9, 2019, the European Commission will hold the “Stakeholder Workshop on the Evaluation of Food Contact Material Legislation – Discussion of Preliminary Findings” in Brussels, Belgium. The event “aims at presenting and discussing with stakeholders the preliminary findings of [the] Ecorys study supporting the Evaluation of the Food Contact Material legislation” in the EU. The agenda includes presentations from the Commission on the main outcomes of the consultation as well as preliminary results regarding the (i) effectiveness and efficiency and (ii) relevance, coherence, and EU added value of the current regulations.

A roadmap for the evaluation of EU FCM regulation was first published in November 2017 (FPF reported). As part of the evaluation, a first stakeholder event was held in September 2018 (FPF reported), and a public consultation was open from February to May 2019 (FPF reported). Many stakeholders provided input during the public consultation period (FPF reported), including a position paper submitted by the Food Packaging Forum.
