On January 7, 2015 the European Commission (EC) circulated a press release announcing the publication of eight EU textual proposals for legal text in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). In November 2014, the EC committed to make the TTIP negotiations with the U.S. more transparent. The publication of these eight proposals during the current bilateral trade talks is one move towards greater transparency. The topics of the proposals cover competition, food safety, animal and plant health, customs issues, technical barriers to trade, small and medium-sized enterprises, and government-to-government dispute settlement. Besides the EU textual proposals, the EC also published TTIP position papers, fact sheets, and a reader’s guide to make the contents more easily accessible for non-experts. These documents were updated on January 7, 2015 and include e.g. fact sheets on food safety, chemicals, and trade and sustainable development.
