On October 8, 2019, at 12:00 pm British Summer Time, plastics research hub ExeMPLaR within the University of Exeter will host a webinar titled “Creating a new circular plastics economy for the South West.” The event will feature a presentation from Peter Hopkinson, Director of the University of Exeter’s Centre for the Circular Economy. This is the first in a planned series of monthly webinars focusing on different topics within the research hub’s Regional Plastics project. The series will focus on:

  • “understanding the stocks and flows of plastics in the SW [(South West)] region,
  • the fate and treatment of plastics at their end of use phase,
  • the potential health and eco-toxicological effects of plastics and how we are assessing this,
  • regional and local initiatives and how these are making a change,
  • the role of local and regional biomaterials to replace fossil fuel plastics in product design,
  • local innovation and entrepreneurial activities making a difference, including closing loops, citizen science and plastic free schemes,
  • the challenges in shifting our current use of plastics,
  • future enablers and effective places to intervene in the system to make a difference at scale.”

The webinar is open to join via Zoom, and all webinars in the series will be recorded and made available to registered members.
