On August 12, 2020, the Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA) announced the publication of the report “Nanotechnology-Over a Decade of Progress and Innovation” by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The report provides an update on FDA’s advancements in the field of nanotechnology since its last report in 2007 which led to a gradual increase in the number of submissions for regulatory review.

The recent report describes the current state of nanomaterials science and nanotechnology and introduces FDA’s nanotechnology task force. It further provides guidance for industry and recommendations how to strengthen regulatory science research in nanotechnology. Finally, collaborations with federal agencies, academic institutions, and international partners in this field are summarized.
