According to an article published on September 18, 2014 by the industry news provider Food Production Daily, the German Ministry for Nutrition, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) will provide a 3rd draft of its Ordinance on Mineral Oils by the end of 2014. Roland Rex, president of Pro Carton, asserted at the joint congress of the European Carton Makers Association (ECMA) and Pro Carton that a public consultation on the draft is expected subsequently.
The conference took place September 17-20, 2014 in Sorrento, Italy. Rex contended that the industry wants a regulation covering mineral oils from all sources, including packaging and other food processing sources. He argues that the German ministry was awaiting regulation at the European level, but the Commission currently lacks capacity and scientific evidence to address the issue.
