In a blog post published on July 16, 2019, Rachel Shaffer presented an infographic she developed that visualizes the various chemical evaluations completed within U.S. federal agencies and aims to help “the environmental health community (and others who might be interested) better understand the review processes that are intended to keep us safe.”

The infographic was created through review of agency documents and directly contacting agencies to help clarify specific details as needed. It provides an overview of key legislations and assessment steps managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and National Toxicology Program (NTP).
