On 29 November the European Joint Research Center (JRC) presented a workshop on the sensory science for food contact materials safety. Experts from universities, industry and regulatory agencies presented the sensory science approaches used to ensure food contact materials safety. Topics presented ranged from general introductions to sensory science over good practices to specific testing guidelines. According to present experts, the responsibility for the sensory safety of food contact materials has been well accepted by industry contrary to that for invisible impacts through such compounds as benzophenone and ITX.
