In an article published on May 24, 2019, news provider Greener Package reported on the launch of the circular shopping system Loop in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. The service is being launched in the U.S. states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington D.C. Grocery store chain Kroger and pharmacy chain Walgreens are the platform’s first partner retailers. “Innovative collaborations with partners like Loop are critical to solving the complex issue of reducing single-use plastics. Our customers look to us to innovate so that together we can reduce waste and increase reuse,” said Lauren Brindley, Vice President at Walgreens.

First announced at the World Economic Forum in January 2019 (FPF reported), Loop partners with brands and retailers to provide consumers with a wide range of products that have reusable packaging. Loop delivers, collects, and then cleans and refills the packaging for next use. Both retailers plan to expand the service across their stores to be able to reach more customers.
