In an article published on September 29, 2015 the news provider Plastics News Europe informs about a new report on the European food packaging market produced by the German market research and consultancy company Ceresana. According to the study, food packaging is expected to reach a volume of 38.2 million tons by 2022. The demand for bioplastic packaging is predicted to increase by more than 15% per year. The sales volume of packaging for canned and preserved food is expected to drop. The highest growth rates are expected for packaging for chilled and frozen food as well as for ready-made meals. The report states that consumers are increasingly opting for convenience food and they demand lightweight, practical packaging with a long shelf life, complete information about the packaged product, and an appealing design.
