In an article published January 30, 2014 in the magazine Men’s Journal journalist Melaina Juntti advises men on how to avoid phthalate exposure. Juntti’s article responds to the recent finding of a decrease in exposure to three banned phthalates and an increase of exposure to other unrestricted phthalates between 2001 and 2010, published by a research group from the University of California (previously reported on by the FPF). Phthalates exposure has been associated reproductive development, low sperm count, and asthma. Previously, most popular articles on phthalates addressed (pregnant) women and children. Similar to these articles, Juntti advises men to avoid personal care products containing synthetic fragrances and plastic food containers.
