As announced in a press release on December 16, 2013, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) updated the Candidate List of Authorization with 7 new substances of very high concern, including the food contact substance dihexyl phthalate (DHP, CAS 84-75-3), which is considered toxic for reproduction. In the U.S., DHP is authorized as an indirect food contact additive under the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 175.105 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The updated candidate list further includes cadmium sulphide (1306-23-6), the colors Direct Red 28 (CAS 573-58-0) and Direct Black 38 (1937-37-7), imidazolidine-2-thione (2-imidazoline-2-thiol) (96-45-7), lead di(acetate) (301-04-2) and trixylyl phosphate (25155-23-1).
