On August 13, 2013 the market research consulting firm RNCOS published a new report on the global food testing market. The report points out that today’s complex food production system and supply chain has resulted in reduced knowledge on the safety of materials and products. According to the analysts, one major driving factor of the food testing market is increased consumer awareness about food safety. The authors highlight developments in key geographical markets, including the United States, Europe, China and India. In conclusion, they argue that while India’s and China’s food safety systems are currently undergoing a transformation, Europe has restricted itself with traditional testing technologies. The report places a particular focus on pathogen, genetically modified organisms (GMO) and pesticide testing and does not eloquently address food contamination through food contact materials.
