In an article published on March 12, 2019, news provider Greener Package informed about the announcement of 12 winners in the NextGen Cup Challenge. The challenge is described as “seeking to identify and commercialize existing and future solutions for the single-use, hot and cold fiber cup system.”
The challenge involved 480 teams from across the globe who developed prototypes within the three categories of: innovative cup liners, new materials, and reusable cup service models. In addition to be being awarded funding to further support their ideas, six of the teams will move into a business accelerator to receive “ongoing support to scale up their models and prepare for production and distribution at a global scale.”
