In a short video published on August 27, 2018, news provider Spiegel Online reported on the issue of plastic waste and pollution. In an interview, chemist Michael Braungart, co-inventor of the Cradle to Cradle design concept, suggested to abandon the term “waste” and only produce things that can be transferred to material cycles. A simple yogurt cup contains about 600 different chemicals to make the cup light, non-brittle, and cheap, Braungart illustrated. Such a product cannot be recycled because it is “pure trash,” he stated. Instead, the number of polymers should be reduced and their composition simplified in order to efficiently sort and recycled them after use.
