In an article published on November 21, 2018, the magazine EUWID Verpackung informed that the German quality label RAL Gütezeichen has set a new target for recycled content in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles: By 2022, PET beverage packaging with the RAL quality mark shall consist of an average of 50% recycled material. The minimum recycling rate for obtaining the quality mark is currently at 25% and will remain unchanged. Members of the RAL Gütezeichen association include preform manufacturers, beverage producers, and recyclers.
