In a letter sent to the President Barroso, Commissioner Tajani, Potočnik and Borg environmental and occupational health scientists from the Collegium Ramazzini call upon the European Commission to apply the precautionary principle to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). For this purpose, the scientists argue, it is necessary to include academic research in the risk assessment of EDCs in addition to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) studies. The scientists state further that it is necessary to modify existing test protocols in order to effectively identify EDCs. According to the Collegium Ramazzini, EDCs should by default qualify as substances of very high concern extending Article 60(3) of REACH to EDCs.

The Collegium Ramazzini is an international academy of 180 environmental and occupational health scientists, which aims to further public health by bridging between the science and social and political centers.
