According to a news article published on the industry site Plastic News on October 1, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a “no objection letter” permitting the plastics recycler KW Plastics to use post-consumer polypropylene (PP) for reusable packaging crates or pallets. The reusable containers produced from post-consumer PP may hold shelled eggs or fresh produce. The FDA concluded in its letter that due to strict source control of only food grade PP and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) by KW Plastics, contamination of the recycled PP/LPDE blend is unlikely.
