In an article published on May 25, 2017 by regulatory news provider Chemical Watch, reporter Emma Davies informed about the release of a draft strategic roadmap for alternative (non-animal) approaches to safety testing.

The draft was developed by the U.S. Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM) and presented at the ICCVAM public forum on May 23, 2017. It seeks to guide the future development of alternative tests in a way that ensures usefulness for research and regulation, enables more efficient and faster validation approaches, and encourages the acceptance of new tests by industry and regulatory agencies. These measures are expected to increase the rates of regulatory acceptance of alternative methods.

A public consultation on the draft roadmap is open until August 31, 2017.
