On June 4, 2013 the European Association on Food Safety, the Safe consortium, published a vision document called “Keeping food safety on the agenda”, which stresses that continued emphasis on food safety is needed under the European research program Horizon 2020. The consortium states in the document that food safety issues, including microbial hazards, tools for managing and assessing risks in the food chain, and chemical contamination continue to be of primordial importance. The Safe consortium states that Horizon 2020 should continue the focus on food safety for health, social and economic reasons.

Among the members of the Safe consortium are NOFIMA, SIK, IRTA, Agroscope and TNO.
