In an article published on July 10, 2017, the environmental organization Ecostandard (ECOS) informed about an open letter sent to the European Commission (EC) on the same day. ECOS is an environmental organization, funded among others by the European Commission (EC) and European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

The open letter, written by the NGO alliance Rethink Plastic to which ECOS also belongs, calls for “concrete policy action on reducing, redesigning and better managing plastics.” The NGOs further challenge the EC “to think broader and bolder, including trying to live plastic free for a day,” and call on the EC to “propose strong and harmonized EU legislation” within the EU Strategy on Plastics, which is due to be published by the end of 2017 (FPF reported).
