On April 16, 2014 the Nanotechnology Industries Association (NIA) published a press release drawing attention to the activities of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) which is currently preparing a technical specification on the responsible development of nanotechnologies. The technical specification aims to integrate risk and benefit assessment in the production, marketing and use of nanotechnologies, -materials and products. Technical specifications prepared by CEN are normative documents allowing various alternatives to coexist until full harmonization is possible.
