In an article published on April 9, 2018, regulatory news provider Chemical Watch informed that Turkey has published new legislation on food contact materials (FCMs), consisting of a general regulation on FCMs and another one covering specifically active and intelligent materials intended for food contact. The two new regulations were published in Turkey’s Official Gazette on April 5, 2018. Turkey notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of the regulations in May 2017 (FPF reported).

With the new FCM legislation, Turkey aligned its rules with the EU regulations on FCMs ((EC) No 1935/2004) and active and intelligent materials intended for contact with food ((EC) No 450/2009), Chemical Watch noted. The deadline to conform with the new laws is end of 2018 or end of 2019 for some exceptions.
