After mounting scientific evidence the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has initiated a new report scheduled for publishing by the end of 2013, which reviews the effects low-dose hormone-like chemicals can have on public health and safety, and whether current chemical assessment should be modified. The paper will tackle the following questions:

  • whether non-monotonic dose response curves (NMDRC) capture adverse effects not currently covered in chemical testing,
  • whether NMDRCs exist and if so when they occur, and
  • whether NMDRCs provide information that would change EPAs current weight of evidence conclusions and subsequent risk assessment (see US EPA website).
