On September 18, 2016 editor Anne Marie Mohan from Greener Package published an article reporting on a network of 90 non-governmental organization (NGOs) who recently released a global vision for a future free from plastic pollution. The vision is based on 10 principles focusing on e.g. lifestyle, impacts on human health and the environment, waste reduction and recycling, strong partnerships between the public, governments and industry, and climate change. Environmental impacts of plastic pollution are based on the significant amounts of single-use disposable applications and the high share of plastic packaging escaping any collection system, Mohan summarizes. The group of NGOs especially calls on policy makers and businesses to increase and coordinate their efforts to reduce plastic pollution, Mohan states.

Interested groups are invited to join the movement by registering under breakfreefromplastic.org.
