Justin holds an MSc in environmental engineering from ETH Zurich and completed his BSc at North Carolina State University. His degree specialized in ecological systems design (including mass flow and life cycle analysis), air quality control, and waste management, including a focus on the transport of chemicals within international food trade. Since completing his studies, he has been working as a research scientist at ETH Zurich within the Institute for Chemical and Biological Engineering and Institute of Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics. His research has focused on modeling the emissions and fate of fluorinated substances in the environment, mapping the life cycles of endocrine disrupting chemicals, and supporting projects focused on strengthening science-policy communication. He is the co-author of reports for the United Nations Environment Programme, has supported scientific discussions within the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, and helped develop university curriculum on the environmentally oriented design of chemical products and processes. Since January 2019 he has been collaborating with the Food Packaging Forum.
