On July 5, 2022, the Food Packaging Forum hosted a webinar featuring recent research into the compounds that can migrate from reusable plastic bottles into water.
Selina Kornelia Tisler of the University of Copenhagen discussed her recent publication in the Journal of Hazardous Materials, which cataloged over 400 plastic-related and more than 3500 dishwasher-related compounds that migrated from reusable plastic bottles into drinking water within 24 hours. Some of the compounds had never before been reported in bottled water (FPF reported). Birgit Geueke from the Food Packaging Forum also presented about the chemical migration data available for reusable food contact articles based on the review of published literature carried out to develop the FCCmigex database.
The presentations were followed by an open discussion session with the audience, including the opportunity for them to ask questions. The webinar was recorded and can be viewed above, and slides from each presentation are also available to download.
