On February 7, 2017, at 04:00 pm CET, the Food Packaging Forum (FPF) held a webinar on can coatings.

Birgit Geueke from the FPF discussed the Forum’s latest dossier on can coatings (FPF reported). The dossier contains thoroughly-researched information on different coating materials, market data, and the regulatory background. It further covers migration of and exposure to various chemicals from can coatings.

Independent consultant Maricel Maffini presented findings from a new scientific study assessing the estrogenic activity of tetramethyl bisphenol F (TMBPF, CAS 5384-21-4) and a novel polymeric coating derived from TMBPF (FPF reported). The study, co-authored by Dr. Maffini and colleagues, analyzed the estrogenicity of TMBPF in three in vitro and two in vivo assays. The findings suggest the absence of estrogenic activity by TMBPF. Hence, TMBPF may be a potential replacement for bisphenol A-based can coatings.

After the two speaker presentations, there was time for a question and answer session.
