On November 17, 2017, the Belgian Paper and Board Converting Industry (FETRA) will hold a conference addressing “Food contact materials in a circular economy” in Brussels, Belgium. Paper and board are renewable and efficiently recyclable materials and thus “the chain is closed from the sourcing till the end of life,” FETRA explains. However, the use of recycled paper and board for food contact materials (FCMs) requires special attention because “substances used in previous applications can have an influence on the new product,” the association notes. The conference will focus on solutions to this problem, such as barriers, adsorbing board, as well as improving communication. The program features speakers from academia, governmental authorities, and industry discussing “their vision on the different aspects of the circular economy and the place of food contact materials in it.” Registration is now open.
