The Finnish manufacturer of adhesives labels UPM Raflatac improved the migration characteristics of two of its adhesive labels. The modified label FG 36 may come into direct contact with dry food stuffs under the U.S. Food and Drug Authority regulations, according to the technical information provided by the manufacturer. The modified label ML 36 may come into direct contact with dry, moist and fatty foods under European regulation and with dry foods under FDA regulation. The manufacturer contends that the label ML 36 is also safe for foods intended for infants and babies. The labels can also be applied onto primary packaging. The manufacturer declares that the labels are acrylic and water borne, the precise composition of the adhesive labels is not known.
