According to a news article published on September 2, 2014 by the industry news provider European Plastics News 65 billion PET bottles were recycled in Europe in 2013. In comparison to 2012 PET recycling thereby increased by 7%. Roberto Bertaggia, chairman of Petcore Europe, the trade association which published the numbers, asserts that a “huge disparity” in collection rates among member states remains. He stresses that stakeholders need to cooperate in order to align collection processes and reach the rising recycling objectives.
