In an article published on May 4, 2017 the industry association Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) informed about the Polyolefin Circular Economy Platform’s (PCEP) key strategic goals and launch of its website. PCEP is a “European joint industry value chain initiative,” founded by the plastics industry associations European Plastics Converters (EuPC), PlasticsEurope and PRE in October 2016. The goal of PCEP is “to advance the circular economy by increasing the reuse and recycling of polyolefin based products and the use of recyclates as raw material.” In this manner, the industry partners aim “to ensure long-term sustainability for polyolefin products.”

PCEP will initially focus on polyolefin packaging and has set two strategic goals: 1) innovation with a focus on circular economy and 2) enhanced collection and sorting systems. Six working groups have been created to achieve these goals.

It was not commented whether the initiative will also focus on recycled polyolefin based products that are suitable for use in contact with food, according to Regulation (EC) 282/2008 on recycled plastic food contact materials.
