In an article published on September 27, 2018, regulatory news provider Chemical Watched informed that the EU has notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of an intended amendment to the Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic food contact materials (FCMs) and articles.

The European Commission (EC) plans to authorize three new substances for use in plastic FCMs: Poly((R)-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-(R)-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (CAS 147398-31-0), dimethyl carbonate (CAS 616-38-6), and isobutane (CAS 75-28-5). Further, the foreseen amendment “modifies the conditions of use of one substance, introduces a group migration limit for one substance, clarifies the types of migrants that are to be used in foods with a certain pH, introduces requirements for the migration testing for the migrating oligomers for one of the newly authorized substance when it is used for the production or polycarbonates other than the ones covered by the specific authorization, and corrects minor typographical errors,” the notification reads.
