On December 6, 2018, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the minutes of the second meeting of its Working Group on Food Contact Materials (WG-FCM). The meeting was held on November 14-15, 2018, by phone conference.

During the meeting, the WG-FCM discussed the draft opinions and noted changes for three substances intended to be used in plastic FCMs: 1) Phosphorus acid, triphenyl ester, polymer with alpha-hydro-omegahydroxypoly[oxy(methyl1-1,2-ethanediyl)], C10-16 alkyl esters, 2) poly((R)-3-hydroxybutyrate-co-(R)-3-hydroxyhexanoate (CAS 147398-31-0) (FPF reported), and 3) bis(2-ethylhexyl) cyclohexane-1,4-dicarboxylate (CAS 84731-70-4). For the first and third substance, the WG-FCM “requires additional information to complete the risk assessment.” Therefore, “[t]he scientific evaluation is currently suspended” until the requested information has been submitted. The draft opinion on the second substance will again be discussed and possibly adopted at the next CEP Panel meeting.

The next meeting of the WG-FCM is scheduled to be held on January 15-17, 2019.
