On December 4, 2018, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the meeting minutes of its Working Group (WG) on Recycling Plastics. The second meeting of the plastics recycling WG was held on November 13, 2018, by phone conference.

During the meeting, the WG discussed the draft opinions on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling process ‘AMB (Bandera technology)’ and ‘Jász-Plasztik (Vacurema prime technology).’ Regarding the first process, “[t]he WG requires additional information to complete the risk assessment.” Thus, “[t]he scientific evaluation is currently suspended” until the requested information has been submitted. For the second process, the WG noted comments and will again discuss the draft opinion at the next meeting.

Further, the WG “was informed about new mandates on recycling processes that were received by EFSA since the last Working Group meeting.”

The next meeting of the plastics recycling WG is scheduled to be held on January 14-15, 2019, by phone conference.
