The Food Packaging Forum’s Brand and Retailer Initiatives Database (BRID) is a repository of actions pledged or undertaken by members of the food industry to address growing consumer concerns about the presence of hazardous chemicals in food packaging as well as the environmental pollution caused by packaging waste (FPF reported). As of July 2022, the BRID is now an interactive tool to explore the brands and companies pledging to change their packaging, and what types of actions those companies are taking.

The database currently contains summary information about nearly 600 initiatives and commitments from over 320 different companies and associations around the world. Users can search and filter by company, the date the action was announced, keywords like “redesign” and “PFAS,” and find actions relevant to a particular country or region. Currently, only 66 actions from 52 companies are directly concerned with chemical safety. For each action, users can find a link for more details either from a Food Packaging Forum news article or company press release.

The actions within the database are not ranked or rated in any way. The database is intended to be a living resource that will be regularly updated and stakeholders are invited to suggest additional entries by completing the online form.
