On April 25, 2017, the Food Packaging Forum (FPF) held a public webinar on the new regulatory requirements for food contact materials (FCM) that are entering into force in China in April and October 2017 (FPF reported). English versions of the different FCM regulations (GB standards) are available for purchase on the Chinese Food Contact Science organization’s website.

The webinar provided background information on the rationale for the new regulations, discussed main differences to existing food contact regulations in Europe and the U.S., and explained how enforcement will be carried out to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

A presentation on the topic was given by Dr. Marco Zhong, director of the National Reference Laboratory for FCMs in Guangdong, China, and chairman of the Expert Committee for FCMs of the China National Food Industry Association. The video recording of his talk and the presentation slides are now available on the event website.

Due to the technical difficulties experienced during the webinar on April 25, FPF will hold a second webinar on Chinese FCM regulation on May 18, 2017, at 03:00 pm CEST. Dr. Marco Zhong will conclude his presentation and afterwards there will be time for questions. For more information and registration, please visit the event website.
