In an article published on February 16, 2016 by the news provider Greener Package, editor Anne Marie Mohan reports a new study entitled “Global green packaging market 2016-2020” and prepared by market intelligence company Infinity Research Ltd.. According to the study, green packaging is “produced from sustainable, renewable, and recyclable raw materials” and encompasses ”materials such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass, which can be easily bent or molded as needed.” The global green packaging market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.35% during 2016-2020. In 2015, Europe was leading the market with more than 31%, recyclable packaging accounted for a market share of over 76%, and in terms of product types, food packaging had a market share of more than 54%. The demand for bioplastic packaging is driving the market as bioplastics are considered more sustainable than conventional plastics because they consume less energy and natural resources and generate lower CO2 emissions.
