On September 25, 2018, the European Commission (EC) published the 2017 annual report of the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). In 2017, the EC was notified of 3,832 food or feed risks of which 942 were classified as “alert,” which indicates “a serious health risk for which rapid action . . . [is] required.”

Food contact materials were involved in 119 (3.1%) of the notified risks. Among these, 34 cases were classified as “alert,” 45 as “border rejection,” 14 as “information for attention,” and 26 as “information for follow-up.”
