In a press release published on March 31, 2020, the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) announced the publication of its first progress report on the implementation of its voluntary action plan for improving the safety data within REACH registration dossiers. Launched in June 2019 (FPF reported), the action plan aimed to systematically review and update data submitted in REACH registration dossiers following ECHA’s finding that many were incomplete (FPF reported).

Cefic reports that in 165 companies joined the action plan in 2019. Between June and December 2019, over 1,700 REACH registration dossiers have been collectively updated. The association told Chemical Watch that this represents 60% to 70% of substances registered at production or import levels above 100 metric tons per year and almost 75% of those registered above 1,000 metric tons per year. The majority of the work on the action plan in 2019 was focused on prioritizing dossiers for re-evaluation and creating a joint update plan for registrations submitted by a consortium of companies.
