In a press release published on January 16, 2020, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced that it has added four new substances of very high concern (SVHCs) to the candidate list of substances for authorization. This includes 2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholinopropan-1-one (CAS 71868-10-5), which is listed as being used in polymer production and is included in the FACET inventory of food contact chemicals. It was added for being toxic for reproduction. Perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS; CAS 375-73-5) and its salts were also officially added to the candidate list after being recognized by the member state committee earlier this month (FPF reported).
