On June 10, 2020, the World Economic Forum (WEF) held a webinar discussing plastic pollution and the green recovery in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic. It reviewed the challenges that the pandemic has created in the form of setbacks to the movement away from single-use plastics and to the society’s capabilities to collect and recycle plastic wastes and prevent waste leakage into waterways and oceans.

A keynote address was given by Zac Goldsmith, minister at the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). This was followed by a set of talks from representatives from industry including Morgen Stanley, Dow, SAP, and Gemini Corp as well as from non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations including the Ocean Conservancy, World Bank, and WIEGO. The full webinar was recorded and is freely available to watch on the event’s page.
