On June 5, 2020, China’s National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) is reported to have announced opening a public consultation on two new substances for use in food contact materials (FCMs). These include polyethylene (CAS 9002-88-4) for use in polyoxymethylene (POM) plastics at a maximum level of 0.3% and 2-propenoic acid, polymer with 1,3-butadiene and ethenyl benzene (CAS 25085-39-6) for use in adhesives with a specific migration limit (SML) of 6 mg/kg for 2-propenoic acid.
