On April 2, 2019, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the minutes of the eighth meeting of its Working Group (WG) on Phthalates, which was held on March 14-15, 2019 in Parma, Italy.

During the meeting, the WG prepared content for the Food Ingredients and Packaging (FIP) Unit’s webinar titled “Learn more about the risk assessment of phthalates used in plastic food contact materials,” which took place on March 15, 2019 (FPF reported). The webinar aimed to “present the main outcomes of the draft assessment of the risks for human health deriving from single and/or combined exposure to five phthalates that are authorized for use in plastic food contact materials (FCM)” and “give context to the public consultation on this draft opinion.” It can now be streamed from the EFSA website. The public consultation on EFSA’s draft assessment of the five phthalates (FPF reported) is open until April 14, 2019.

The next WG meetings will be held on April 26, 2019 and May 13, 2019 by phone conference.
