On February 27, 2019, the European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) Panel on Food Contact materials, Enzymes and Processing Aids (CEP Panel) published the minutes of the 6th and 7th meetings of its Working Group (WG) on BPA re-evaluation. The 6th meeting was held on January 22-23, 2019, in Parma, Italy, and the 7th meeting was held on February 11, 2019, by teleconference.

During the 6th meeting, “the experts discussed in pairs their conflicts [that] arise during the appraisal of their assigned papers and subsequently went over the outcome of the appraisal for both animal and epidemiological studies.” Further, the WG discussed “options regarding the calibration of the internal validity” and “standardization of the answers tot eh appraisal questions.” Lastly, “the WG identified the need for additional experts in the area of reprotoxicity and neurotoxicity” because of “the high number of papers to be appraised.”

During the 7th meeting, the experts informed the EFSA secretariat about the “decisions taken in the 6th WG meeting on the appraisal methodology” and discussed “the outcomes of the last proposed scoring approach of a sample of papers for the pilot.” The experts then agreed on a set of new papers to be appraised before the next WG meeting “in order to validate the scoring approach.”

The 8th meeting is scheduled to be held on March 4, 2019, in Parma, Italy.
